Susana Cereja working in close conversation with participants at Centro de Apoio Social do Pisão during the O QUE NÃO VÊS project.
O QUE NÃO VÊS emerged from a collaborative creative process at Centro de Apoio Social do Pisão, shaped by the experiences, choices and imaginations of the participants. Before the sessions, Susana Cereja researched the history of the Pisão and the different realities of the people she would meet. In the first session, the artist brought colours, threads, symbols and images of Jardim Marechal Carmona, asking participants what they would like to find there. One answer stood out: the Sun. Light became both a visual element and a symbol, as the original proposal gradually opened itself to the participants' abilities, memories and decisions. The process culminated in a four-part sculptural installation made with Arraiolos stitch and moved from the Pisão into Jardim Marechal Carmona in Cascais. This transition from an institutional setting into public space is central to the project: to ask before making assumptions, to listen before defining, and to recognise that what we see is never the whole story.
