WHAT REMAINS BETWEEN

This exhibition brings together practices from Mexico, Brazil and Portugal around a shared intuition: that matter holds time, that forces act between bodies, and that the interval — that tense space between one thing and another — is where something new becomes possible. The works gathered here share neither an origin nor a medium, but a sensibility towards what happens between form and its history, between gesture and the trace it leaves, between the visible and what organises it from within. The regional spirit is not looking for identity categories, but three latitudes with distinct ways of relating to territory, to the body and to material memory. Their meeting in the unique Comporta–Carvalhal–Melides triangle is not coincidental: it results from an active search for dialogues that go beyond programming to build something closer to a living network. This exhibition is the second summer exercise and, with it, the second interval in a series being deliberately constructed over time. Each encounter leaves something in the next. What distinguishes this project is not only the selection of artists but the nature of the spaces that host it: Casa da Cultura da Comporta, A Moagem, Centro Social do Carvalhal and Circular Gallery — a former local cinema, an old rice factory, a community centre and an architecture studio — coexist within a single exhibition, transcending conventional exhibition-space typologies. The network being built here does not follow an institutional logic but a search for fields of relation between spaces with distinct vocations, where art operates as a connective force between the local and the Atlantic, between the historical and the contemporary, between the communal and the international. The exhibition is organised around three nodes that emerge from the works themselves. It brings together practices that understand time and materials as active archives, surfaces where time accumulates. The body as a field of forces brings together works that approach human, atmospheric and geological layers as permeable matter, continuously shaped by invisible forces. Between order and rupture examines how form and structure carry within them the seeds of their own undoing — how ornament overwhelms composition, how the dismantled object reveals its own logic, how the domestic harbours what cannot be contained. — Graciela Kasep, Curator
