ARTISTIC RESIDENCY — KRANJ

As a guest artist at BIEN, the Textile Biennale in Kranj, Slovenia, Susana Cereja developed HELIA in response to the Biennale’s theme, the Sun. Midway through the process, she undertook a four-day train journey from Lisbon to Kranj, arriving on 18 June for a three-week residency that also included a workshop for the local community. The work was produced between March and June, in Lisbon, during the journey itself and throughout the residency. In Kranj, production continued inside the gallery where HELIA would be presented, while the artist worked surrounded by six of her works already on display at Cene Gallery. The process also became an opportunity for direct contact with visitors and for sharing knowledge around the Arraiolos stitch.
