PENINSULARES

The Peninsulares project aims to promote contemporary Portuguese and Spanish textile art. Its promoters include Ideias Emergentes / Contextile Biennial from Portugal and Indigo Proyectos, along with various regional and national associations from Spain. The project seeks to bridge Spain and Portugal, two territories where the textile sector has historically held significant importance not only economically but also socially, culturally, and artistically. The program for 2023 includes a contemporary textile art exhibition centered around wool, featuring the works of twelve artists (6 Portuguese and 6 Spanish) showcased at two different venues: Covilhã, Portugal, and Cáceres, Spain. Additionally, there will be four artistic residencies (two in Covilhã and two in Cáceres), workshops, and participation by artists and curators in the TextileTalks seminars. Curated by Lala de Dios (Indigo Proyectos) from Spain and Cláudia Melo (Artistic Director of Contextile) from Portugal, the exhibition will bring together works from both Spanish and Portuguese artists. It will be held at the Museu de Lanifícios in Covilhã from July 14 to September 30, and from October 25 to November 26, 2023, at El Brocense, Provincial Council of Cáceres.
